There have been rumours about Linux support in Steam for months, but yesterday a friend pointed me at http://store.steampowered.com/app/900804/
If you look at the bottom of the page, you’ll see this:
So, if it’s not a typo, we could have a pretty good surprise soon

anyway, linux has bad performance for games.
Well, it depends if you have a correct 3D driver…
hmm i have correct one, opensorce one, ati. with no correct 3d support.
but i also tried nvidia binary on other machines, 1.5 – 2x times slower then under windows.
Yes, you need the proprietary drivers to get correct 3D performance for now. I have the opposite experience with OpenGL games, Linux performance is slightly better than on Windows (X-Plane for example). Of course if you use DirectX games with Wine, Windows should be better as expected
Try openarena/quake3 for comparison. Windows has better performance in those games.
Also opensource-ati driver wont run any wine games.. bad opensource. bad ati.
Ok, it looks like this whole Steam thing was a typo. The game will be available on Linux, but not trough Steam. See http://www.phoronix.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17769#post79168
