As a good Swiss guy, I like watches (clichés, clichés), but after a while you get a bit tired of always wearing the same one. So you begin to look around for a second watch, and a third, and so on…It’s really hard to tell WHY you always want new watches just to see the time. Isn’t a 10$ plastic watch enough some may think? Well, no
Currently I have a Russian Raketa Red Star, with a nice 24h display (click on the picture). This is my casual watch, it’s fun. My other principal watch is a Swiss Breitling Chrono Colt which I love. The Raketa is a fully manual movement that you have to rewind every 2 days or so, while the Breitling is a Super Quartz movement.
I’m currently looking for a fun mid-range (200-300€) watch with an automatic movement, Vostok Europe (Lithuanian brand) seems to have something like that: the N1 model. It has (not on the picture below) a 24h display like the Raketa and a transparent back. which lets you see an automatic movement, unfortunately there is no vendor in Switzerland, si I would need to import it somehow :/
I’m quite open for suggestions if there are some other watch “fans” around

I’m a huge fan of the Citizen Eco-Drive watches, which I believe will be in the range you’re looking for. Solar movement works the same as an automatic for all intents and purposes; the one I wear, a Corso, is probably a little simple for your taste but they have a pretty decent selection.

The German distributor of Vostok placed in Heidenheim delivers to Switzerland as well.
The Eco-Drive watches are a cool concept, Seiko and Casio do similar things as far as I know.
For Vostok, the German distributor seems very well known, a lot of people seem to buy from him
Hi!
I was looking to buy a watch for the last few days and I just remembered and searched for this blog post that I saw on the fedora planet a while ago.
I think the Raketa watches are amazingly awesome and I was wondering where you bought it from and if it was kevinrussiantime I’d like to hear what your experience was with them.
Previously I was thinking of getting one of the seiko 5 military watches [1] , but I think I just changed my mind
Btw, seeing as you’re a swiss guy, what do you think about that one?

I didn’t buy one yet, but I’ll probably get it via Amazon.
