Last week, I was ranting about the Dell Mini 12 which is based on the Poulsbo architecture, with a Linux incompatible GMA 500 GPU. It turns out that the folks at dell Dell are smart : they are using an Intel GMA 900 instead, which is fully compatible with Linux.
Still, it only has 1GB of RAM, non-upgradable
NOTE: it is in fact an incompatible GMA500, the GMA900 reference was a mistake on dell’s french website!
thats why i got an eeepc 1000
put in 2gb mem very easy
Where did you find this information? It’s not clear to me that this should be the case: according to the Wikipedia page and the Intel website, the GMA 900 is a generation older than the GMA 950, which is the graphics core in the 945GSE chipset used in the Mini 9, Eee 1000, etc. It’s possible, I guess, that it presents to the driver as a GMA 900 – some sort of compatibility mode until a real driver is released?
I guess I’ll know soon enough – my Mini 12 shows up tomorrow, and the plan is to replace Vista with Fedora 10.
It was on Dell’s french website, but it sems that all other Dell website have a GMA500 listed. Please let me know as soon as you get it! Looks like my errata wasn’t needed in the end.

I got my Mini 12 today and I can confirm that it does come with the GMA 500, which I can also confirm does not support Linux yet. I have posted on the Xorg mailing list to see if I can get some info on the status of this driver, but if it turns out that Dell is planning on changing the chipset with some of their later models, I may seriously consider sending mine back.
And why it’s sold at the Dell french site with Ubuntu 8.04?

Linux versions should begin to appear everywhere this month, this seems good news as it means Linux display drivers have been developed.
